The National Strategy for Financial Education – ENEF – is a multi-sectoral mobilization around the promotion of financial education initiatives in Brazil. The strategy was established as a state policy of permanent character, and its main features are the assurance of gratuity of initiatives which it develops or supports and their commercial impartiality. The goal of ENEF, created through Federal Decree 7.397/2010, is to contribute to the strengthening of citizenship by providing and supporting actions that help people to take more autonomous and aware financial decisions. The strategy was created through the combination of nine government agencies and entities, and four civil society organizations, which together make up the National Financial Education Committee – CONEF.
The ENEF programs are led by the Master Plan, and its Annexes, documents that consolidate the work of the National Strategy for Financial Education. ENEF´s actions are made by cross-cutting and sectoral, programs, coordinated centrally, but implemented in a decentralized manner.
